Sides Up - Vegan Sidedishes

What is Side Up? I was thinking that sounded like what they use to yell to us in the restaurant - actually A&W Root Beer stand - where I worked as a teenager. What do I mean by side dishes especially for the vegan meal? Well they are accompaniments to other dishes and I am including salads and veggies and other things in the category. Wikipedia defines a side dish as "sometimes referred to as a side order, side item, or simply a side, is a food item that accompanies the entrée or main course at a meal...When used as an adjective qualifying the name of a dish, the term "side" usually refers to a smaller portion served as a side dish, rather than a larger, main dish-sized serving. For example, a "side salad" is usually served in a small bowl or salad plate, in contrast to a large dinner-plate-sized entrée salad." That pretty much sums it up and it can pretty much include anything.

Traditionally of course, a side dish refers to something that one serves as an accompaniment to a meat, poultry or fish entree but naturally in a vegan diet that would be different. A simple Seitan "filet" could be the "entree" or as in my "Southern Special Menu", Jalapeno Hush Puppies and Easy Coleslaw accompany a Cajun Breaded Tofu entree or with the "Bohemian Sunday Dinner", Seitan Goulash is accompanied by Bohemian Bread Dumplings and Roasted Green Beans with Almonds to make a whole meal.

I wanted to list several separate dishes that could be combined with other things that would make up a whole meal. Some of them take just a few minutes, others are more elaborate and take extra planning. Try yourself to bring a couple things together and make something special even for that everyday meal.
