Tofu and Snow Peas

The wonderful BBQ like sauce is what makes this Tofu and Snow Peas really delicious. We like chinese food and spicy dishes. This recipes has both together!

 

Servings: 4
Duration: about 30 minutes
Utensils: Large skillet or wok, saucepan, small bowl, whisk
Cooking surface: Stove top

 

Ingredients:

1/4 cup hoisin sauce

1/4 cup water

1 Tab soy sauce

1 Tab agave

1 teas lemon juice

1 to 2 teas chili-garlic sauce

2 Tab oil

8 oz shiitake mushrooms, stemmed and sliced

8 oz smoked tofu or seitan cut into thin strips

2 teas grated fresh ginger

1/4 teas ground cinnamon

1/4 ground cloves

4 oz snow peas

2 scalions, trimmed and thinly sliced

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, optional

Cooked rice for serving

 

Instructions:

In a small bowl, make the sauce by whisking together hoisin, water, soy sauce, agave, lemon juice and chili-garlic sauce. Set aside.

In the skillet or wok, heat the oil over medium heat and stir-fry mushrooms and tofu/seitan until lightly brown. Add ginger, cinnamon and cloves. Let cook for a few more minutes.

Add the sauce and snow peas to the skillet. Reduce heat and let cook until sauce has thickened. Remove from heat and stir in scallions and cilantro. Serve over rice.

I like this recipes with the smoked tofu because it adds more of the BBQ flavor. Hoisin sauce is available in Asian markets in the States and really adds flavor. The mix of cinnamon, ginger and cloves gives it that asian touch. If you can't find it in the store I have a recipe here.
